Traverse helps you learn the way your mind works… it sharpens your double-edged sword of learning skills (understanding and memory).
The app uses a science-backed approach to structure your learning, noticeably improving your recall even if you have only 10 minutes a day (without having to learn a new tool first).
The mind map, notetaking and spaced repetition functions further enhance your memory: They also help you visualize what you’re learning and deepen your understanding… all while reviving your creativity… and constantly enhancing your learning skills.

Our app has been reviewed by Barbara Oakley (creator of Learning How To Learn, the most popular online course of all time) and Scott Young (author of Ultralearning, polyglot and ultralearner). Justin Sung, the YouTube expert on how to study, sits on the Traverse advisory board.
Three years of struggle, tears, and research later, I finally developed an answer to the question:
Just imagine:
Having perfect recall
Having a mental picture of the subject, your learning comes alive
Seeing the test answer in front of you
Turning a tedious review practice into a process that is joyful, reliable, and most importantly: works… or what about…
Replacing boredom with a series of AHA moments
Having the confidence that you can master anything - no matter how complex
Enter your bullet points here..
This question led me to create Traverse, an app that superpowers your learning.
Memory is a complex thing. You need to break down topics in a way that makes sense to you, connect it to what you already know to make it 'sticky', and then be consistent in your revision to remember for the long-term.
Many people have developed processes for single aspects of these:
- Drawing mind maps helps to break down complex topics
- Writing notes helps to go deeper and make connections
- Flashcard apps like Anki help you review at the optimal time
But each of these techniques in isolation only gets you so far. When you combine them, the effects multiply and you see an up to 289% boost in memory.
Traverse combines all of these systems for you.
And best of all, it's highly visual: leveraging your visual memory means you'll remember more while saving time and effort.
See the power of visual memory for yourself: Do you still remember what your childhood bedroom looks like? It might have been years or decades ago since you last saw it, but you can probably recall a surprising lot of details.
Complex topics can be made visual as well. In Traverse your, topics are laid out in a simple mind map, visualizing connections. You break complexity down into bite-sized chunks. We developed an algorithm to ensure that you learn at the right time and never forget anything... speaking of complexity:
Whether you’re tech-savvy or not, Traverse is an intuitive system.
This is the system I used to successfully learn Chinese; I'm now living in China and chatting away with my wife's family and friends!
But the app didn’t only help me… Meet Raleigh Sorbonne.
Earlier this year, he was studying for the MCAT exam to enter medical school - where more than 78% of the test-takers scored below the minimum score medical schools are looking for (510).
He soon realized his old methods of (re-)reading study material and highlighting the significant bits weren't going to cut it this time.
After doing his research, he discovered how organized note-taking apps like Notability and flashcards apps like Anki improved his recall.
But he kept asking himself, “Is there an even better way to learn?”
After a few months, he discovered Traverse. It allowed him to connect ideas visually and see the big picture.
Raleigh used Traverse to study and got a 99th percentile score on his MCAT.

Visual mindmapping: You learn best visually - it helps you build a mental picture and form new connections. The Traverse mindmap allows you to get an understanding of complex topics
Spaced repetition flashcards: Repetition is the key to mastery. Active recall is much more efficient than passive rereading. These techniques are combined in our flashcards, and our algorithms schedules them at your personal optimal learning time
Connected notes: Your notes are directly connected with your mindmap and flashcards. You can add audio, video, images, as well as todo-lists, math equations and much more.
Learning templates: You don’t want to spend time doing anything you’re not supposed to be doing. Our learning templates are designed by those who have already mastered the topic you want to learn. You can see exactly what to learn, in which order and how to learn it. You never have to start learning from scratch anymore.
Instant content import: Directly import content from any URL, or from other sources like Anki decks
Sharing & Collaboration: Learning by teaching is the best way. Share what you’ve learned with friends, or discover new things by working together
Access to our Discord Community: Get access to our Discord community and get help from people just like you. You won’t waste any time because you’re stuck on some little question or because you’re having an off day. You’ll have a place to turn for answers, inspiration and feedback so you can always keep moving forward.

- I tried mind mapping but it didn't work for me.. how is this different?Mindmapping is ineffective when done the wrong. That is, when you do mindmapping in isolation. Jotting down some thoughts and drawing some arrows and then never look at them again.
With Traverse, mindmapping is an integral part of the learning cycle. It amplifies and strengthens the other learning methods like note-taking and retrieval practice.
You come back to your mind maps and refine them as you learn more. Your mind map is an actual reflection of your mind - and helps you to look into your own mind more clearly. - How is this different from tools like Anki, Remnote, Notion or Roam?Traverse is not just a flashcard program like Anki. It is also not a general note taking tool like Notion or Roam. Instead, it is your learning space, where you learn new things, and revise what you already know to full mastery. It is also highly visual, and we provide beautiful learning templates full of content to give you a head start. This makes it different from a linear note-taking tool like Remnote.
- What is the scientific basis for the learning methods used in Traverse?Traverse relies on 6 science-backed principles for optimal learning. We list them here with references to the original research:
Mind mapping:
30% better metacognition (Mind Mapping in Learning Models: A Tool to Improve Student Metacognitive Skills by Dyah Astriani · 2020)
17% improved critical thinking (Improving Junior High Schools' Critical Thinking Skills Based on Test Three Different Models of Learning by Fuad · 2017)
Improved academic achievement and retention (The effect of mind-mapping applications on upper primary students’ success and inquiry-learning skills in science and environment education by Ali Günay Balım · 2013)
Improved creativity (The Random-Map Technique: Enhancing Mind-Mapping with a Conceptual Combination Technique to Foster Creative Potential by Charlotte P. Malycha · 2017)
The principle of active recall: testing yourself
45% better understanding (Using elaborative interrogation by B Kahl · 1994)
60% better memory (Test-Enhanced Learning by Roediger & Karpicke · 2006)
The method of deliberate practice: focusing on your weak points
20% better test performance (Improving Students’ Learning With Effective Learning Techniques by Dunlosky · 2013)
The spaced repetition algorithm: optimally space your revisions over time
82% better memory (Distributing Learning Over Time by HA Vlach · 2012)
Interleaved practice: learn multiple skills in parallel
103% better complex problem solving (The effects of interleaved practice by K Taylor · 2010)
Feynman technique: learning by teaching
218% deeper understanding (Feynman Technique as a Heutagogical Learning Strategy for Independent and Remote Learning by Reyes · 2021)
Concept mapping: using your visual cortex
42% better text comprehension (The Effect of Concept Mapping to Enhance Text Comprehension and Summarization by Chang · 2002) - Can’t I set up a learning system like this by myself with a note taking tool, a mindmapping tool and a flashcard tool? You can, and we encourage you to try it! However we’ve heard from many people trying this that their systems tend to get messy and inconsistent over time. That’s why we’ve put it all together for you in one, easy-to-use tool.
- Can I learn a language / marketing skills / math / medicine / engineering / systems thinking with Traverse?Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! People have successfully mastered all of these diverse topics with Traverse, and you can too!
- What if it turns out Traverse just doesn't work for me?We're very confident that you will see significant improvements in your learning with Traverse. However, if for some reason you decide Traverse just doesn't work for me, we will give you back 100% of your payment as long as you tell us within the first two weeks. No further conditions or questions asked.
- How does this fit in with my existing practices like note-taking and flashcards? I'm already short on time..Traverse makes all of your existing practices come together, rather than replace or add to them. By doing all your practices in one place, they start to re-inforce each other, so that you will learn faster and generate more comprehensive insights.
- What is Gold Thursday? Is this a Black Friday Deal?Gold Thursday is Black Friday’s evil twin brother - in some parts of the world they also call it 'Thanksgiving' ;)
Just kidding.
As top-of-class learners, we want to develop our minds faster than anybody else.
To get a competitive edge over your academic competition, you should start improving. Not after New Year. Not after Black Friday. But now… before or on Gold Thursday. Earlier than everyone else getting their deals on Black Friday.
